Low Power Underwater Communication

Image: MIT

Researchers at MIT have developed a low power, no battery underwater backscatter communication system, which is made from piezoelectric materials that detect and reflect encoded data using background sound waves. The system can theoretically transmit over kilometer long ranges, and could be used to provide data connectivity to offshore monitoring stations or renewable energy systems.
