Ericsson and PowerLight Technologies have developed a method to send power wirelessly to 5G base stations using lasers. The power lasers can send 480 watts over 300 metres and are expecting to upscale to 1,000 watts over 1km.

Google's DeepMind developed a new AI model to predict rainfall over a short-term period of 0 to 2 hours, known as nowcasting. The model is now being deployed by The Met Office in the UK.
Australian quantum computing company Quantum Brilliance released a rack size quantum accelerator that operates at room temperature. The device uses synthetic diamonds as a stable environment for atom based qubits that can maintain coherence for milliseconds at a time. The company plans on miniaturising the accelerator to the size of a graphics card with ~50 qubits.
Mathematicians at the McMaster Institute for Music and the Mind in Canada studied the download patterns of music from MixRadio and found that their spread matches the patterns seen in the spread of infectious diseases. Interestingly, they found that metal and dance music is not infectious and electronica is the most infectious.
