Greek Whistlers

A fascinating article on theoutline.com about Sfyria, a whistling based language in remote villages on the Greek islands, which is going extinct. The whistling language is/was used to communicate short messages over large distances, such as large farm fields and mountain areas. The higher pitch of a whistle is more distinguishable by the human ear of long distance.  

Fox Vs Eagle

NAWR ANOIS #3 - Vicky Langan, Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh

This week we welcomed Vicky Langan & Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh to Swansea for our third NAWR ANOIS concert. Ailbhe played a number of lovely amplified Viola pieces and Vicky performed a very moving minimalist piece which culminated with an excerpt of The Palms, a field recording made by Vicky in the grotto in Granard in 2014 on the 30th anniversary of the death of Ann Lovett.
