Polish Water Clams

The city water supply of Warsaw in Poland uses a rotating team of 8 clams to test the water quality of the supply. If the clams close after detecting toxins in the water supply, they complete a circuit which trips and alarm and shuts off the water supply of the city. (H/T to Mikael for sharing this)

IKEA's reasearch lab Space10 has collaborated with design studio Bakken & Bæck and industrial designer Tanita Klein to create Bee Home, an open source design for a wooden Bee Home that people can build and install at home. The Bee Home website allows you to customise the size and configuration of your Bee Home, and then download the instructions and CNC files to use to fabricate the wooden home.

He calculates that reducing file size by 1KB on a file that is loaded by 2 million websites reduces emissions by ~2950kg per month. Toyota Future City

Toyota are planning to build a prototype city of the future called Woven City on 175 acres at the base of Mt. Fuji. The city will be fully powered by hydrogen fuel cells and it will feature segregated transport links for different type of autonomous zero emissions vehicles and state of the art robot filled smart residences made of wood using traditional Japanese wood joinery. The first population set of 2000 people will be employees, retirees and industry partners. Ground breaking is due to start in 2021.
